Typically, installing porcelain veneers can be accomplished within two appointments to the dental office. During the first office visit, the dentist will examine the patient’s teeth and determine whether getting veneers is right for them. If the dentist and patient decide to proceed with the porcelain veneer option, then the dentist will reshape the tooth surface in order to bond the veneer to it. Next, molds of the patient’s mouth and teeth are made. From there, decisions are made about the size, shape, and color so that the dental lab can make porcelain veneers tailored to those specifications.
During the second office visit, the dentist will temporarily place the dental veneer to see if it is the specified fit and color. If it is, the veneer will be permanently cemented to the tooth using a bonding cement. The dentist will then apply a special light beam to the veneer that allows to harden and set in place. After the procedure has been completed, the patient will receive special instructions for caring for the new veneers.
